I found this little quote box called the “Holstee Manifesto” posted on a newsletter/blog called “Brainpickings” that my consultant sent my way (photo by me). According to the “about”section, “Brain Pickings is a discovery engine for interestingness, culling and curating cross-disciplinary curiosity-quenchers, and separating the signal from the noise to bring you things you didn’t know you were interested in until you are.” You can read the weekly newsletter or look through previous posts and reviews here.
I was helping out Allison Shigo for her Healing Hands of Joy fundraiser last night in midtown NYC. (HHOJ is a program which helps women who have suffered from maternal health issues, specifically obstetric fistula, reintegrate back into their village societies in the remote Tigray region of northern Ethiopia.) I stepped out on the back deck of the apartment and discovered this amazing view (above). I spent a week at the HHOJ center last winter in Mekelle, Ethiopia documenting the program and women at the center (all of the info can be found on my website and below are a couple of portraits of obstetric fistula survivors going through the month long program at Healing Hands of Joy). Last night was the one year anniversary of the opening of the center. Congrats to Allison and the whole HHOJ team!
